Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon: Infinity
Act 16 – Confrontation

“So you must think your pretty hot, eh, Quartzite?” Diamond said, walking into her room without waiting for her to answer the door.

Quartzite, who was in the process of getting dressed shrieked and tried to hide herself. She fell into an overstuffed armchair. “What do you mean, Diamond-sama?”

He placed his hands on the arms of the chair and leaned forward until his face was right up close to hers. “I meant that you must be feeling very proud of yourself right now. You’ve managed to impress our great Queen, a feat that very few can boast of having done. I myself have done it many times, but of course you knew that.”

“What are you doing here?”

He leaned closer. She could smell his breath, like mint. “I came to congratulate you. Is there something wrong with my presence here?”

“No, none at all, Diamond-sama,” Quartzite said, shaking her head.

“You’re trembling,” he said, frowning. “Are you cold?”

“Hai, a little bit. I’m so happy you thought to come and say so yourself, Diamond-sama.”

His face came so close their noses were almost touching. “Would you like me to leave so you can get warm?” She shook her head. He grinned and kissed her. “Continue to do such good work and perhaps an alliance between us might be possible.” He stood, backing off. “Unfortunately, I have to leave you now as I have duties to attend to this evening.” He bowed. “Good night, Quartzite.” He said, then vanished.

Quartzite touched her lips where Diamond had kissed her. “I won’t fail you, Diamond-sama, I swear it.”

“So, Rei-chan, how are things going at the shrine?” Usagi asked. They were all sitting around Makoto’s table eating left over Christmas goodies.

“It’s not very busy right now. It’ll pick up again around New Years Eve, but for now it’s very quiet. I have a lot of time to meditate.”

“Has the fire shown anything new lately?” Ami asked, nibbling on a piece of shortbread Serena had brought over.

Rei got a weird look in her eyes. “Yes, now that you mention it. I keep seeing visions of destruction. Things are going to get really nasty real soon.”

“Huh,” Tyler said, putting down her mug of peppermint tea. “That matches with the dreams Hotaru-chan’s been having, as well as what Shinami says Michiru-san’s been seeing in her mirror.”

“Shinami nodded. “This is starting to get really weird and I don’t like it at all.” She shivered involuntarily. “What else has the fire shown you, Rei-chan?”

Rei looked at the little blond girl, startled. “How did you know that it showed me more?”

She shrugged. “Wild guess.”

“I get the impression form the fire that there’s a traitor in our midst. “I’m not entirely sure who that is, but there’s a black cloud hanging over us when all the senshi are together, more so when we’re all at the crown.”

“I’ll ask Tenno-san and see what she thinks of all this. The outers are extremely suspicious by nature. Maybe they’ll have an idea of what to make of your fire reading.”

“I never thought to ask Haruka-san.” Rei said thoughtfully. “Thank you Shinami-chan.”

Shinami’s reply was cut off by a knock at the door. Makoto went to answer it and came back with Haruka-tachi.

“Tenno-san! What brings you all here?” Shinami asked, puzzled.

“I felt we should share something with you,” Michiru said, fingering her mirror. “Something that we’ve had our suspicions about for a while now, but didn’t really have enough proof to go telling you about it.”

“If it’s the same thing Rei-chan’s been seeing in her fire, then we have a fairly good idea about what it is,” Taiki said.

“Rei’s seen the images of the traitor in our midst?” Michiru nodded. “Good. Then this won’t be difficult for you to swallow. I believe the traitor to be Obsidian.” She looked right at Jason.

He chocked on a cookie he’d been eating. “Excuse me?”

“You heard Michiru,” Haruka sneered, transforming into Eternalsailoruranus. “You’re the traitor here.”

Jason stood and dodged before Uranus could lay her hands on him. Jen tried to help, but Eternal Sailor Neptune blocked her path. “Henshin yo, Nii-chan! You don’t stand a chance against Uranus the way you are.”

Jason, seeing she was right, shouted, “Hisei Star Power, Make Up!” There was a flash of light and KnightHisei stood where Jason previously was. “Why do you insist on attacking me? I haven’t done anything wrong.”

“So you claim,” Pluto said, advancing, her time staff ready to strike.

“You, too, Setsuna?” Serena asked, horrified.

“Stay out of this, Guardians,” Pluto said, not turning her attention away from KnightHisei. “Let us deal with this.” While she spoke, Hotaru transformed and pointed her glaive at him. He paled and backed towards the window.

“No, we will not!” Tyler shouted at her. “This is our friend you insist on naming traitor. And, if you persist in attacking him, we have no choice but to help.”

Uranus turned her cold eyes on Tyler. “We won’t hold back if you do,” she warned.

The grin on Tyler’s face was not pleasant to look at as it was almost evil. “Bring it on, Uranus-baby. Earth Cosmic Power, Make Up!”

“You shouldn’t have done that,” Uranus said, shaking her head. “Space Sword Blaster!”

StarLight watched the attack come towards her. “Virgo Motion Pause!” she said, canceling the attack before it got to her and did serious damage to Makoto’s kitchen. “You’ll have to do better than that.”

Uranus flushed with anger. While the outers were distracted by StarLight, StarSinger aided KnightHisei in getting out through the window. Saturn saw this and followed, Pluto right behind her.

“Get him!” Neptune shouted, heading after them, Uranus hot on her heels.

“What is going on here?” Seiya asked in confusion. “Why are they fighting each other?” he turned to Jen, who had just transformed into StarFire. “Can’t you stop this?”

StarFire shook her head. “No. The only thing that’ll end this is Uranus-tachi backing down. We’ll defend Nii-chan until there aren’t any more of us standing.” She turned to the twins. “I don’t want you two involved in this. Your powers aren’t strong enough to go against many opponents. Brett, we’ll call you if we need you.” With that, she headed out the window just after StarLove.

“This is crazy,” Yaten commented. “They’ll die to defend him? That’s the most pig-headed thing I’ve ever heard.”

“Not really,” Minako said. “You’d die to protect your princess, right?”

“That’s completely different,” Taiki objected.

“It’s not so far fetched, Yaten.” Usagi said. “If it were any of my friends Haruka-tachi were labeling as the traitor, I’d defend them like that, too.”

“We have to do something,” Ami said, standing. “This is just like when they faced off against the StarLights.”

Usagi nodded. “I agree Ami-chan, but what?”

“Get back here and take your punishment like a man!” Pluto shouted after him. “StarSinger, we have no grudge against you. We won’t hurt you if you stop this nonsense.”

“I can’t do that, Pluto,” she said, turning to face her. “You’ll hurt my best friend’s twin brother. I can’t allow that to happen. Pisces Water Dragon!”

“Scorpio Time Twist!” Pluto countered.

“Pisces Sparkling Tsunami!” Neptune added. Pluto’s attack canceled Singer’s while Neptune’s almost made a direct hit.

“Stop right there! Hisei Desert Blast Furnace!” KnightHisei shouted. A blast of heat hit the outer senshi, followed by a firestorm. Their fukus weren’t set on fire, but his full power hadn’t gone into the attack and they knew it. “Don’t hurt her!”

“Yuki, what are you doing?” Singer hissed at him.

“Trust me, Ten-chan,” he whispered to her. “I’ll give up if you leave them alone. I swear by the deserts of my home world of Hisei.”

Saturn looked at him suspiciously. “You swear?”

He nodded. “You have my word.” Saturn lowered her glaive.

“Virgo Motion Pause!” StarLight shouted. The outers froze in place.

StarLight and StarLove were glowing in their auras. They were working as one and, as such, StarLight’s attack would last until they either cancelled it or their energy ran out.

“We won’t allow you to hurt him,” StarFire said calmly, landing in front of the enraged outer senshi. “How many times do we need to explain that?” she looked back at her brother, seeing him unhurt. “What proof do you have that he’s the traitor?”

“He’s Obsidian,” Neptune pointed out, straining against the power that held her still. “What more proof do you need?”

“He was Obsidian,” StarSinger corrected. “Give us better proof than that.”

Pluto somehow managed to free them. The only indication of this to the Guardians was the backlash of energy into StarLight and StarLove. They groaned and collapsed to their knees. Before the Guardians could react, the outers attacked.

The other senshi watched the battle, not entirely sure what to do, or who to help for that matter. The Guardians were getting pummeled, but were giving back as good as they got. It was a fairly even fight. For now, at least.

Fighter gritted her teeth as she watched. I need to be over there, helping her, but I can’t. I don’t dare interfere with this fight. Jen’ll kill me! But I can’t just sit here and watch her get hurt. She flinched as Uranus landed a kick in StarFire’s stomach, knocking the wind out of her for a few seconds. Fire retaliated with a swift punch to Uranus’s jaw. That’ll leave a bruise.

Beside her, Sailormoon was having much the same thoughts. She, however, decided to do something.

Saturn had managed to get close to KnightHisei and had her glaive pointed at his throat. “Now you die, traitor,” she said, swinging the glaive back.

Sailormoon jumped in front of him as she was going to swing it back at him. Saturn managed to stop the swing just before it hit her.

“What are you doing Sailormoon?” Neptune asked, walking up to stand beside Saturn. “Why are you helping him?”

“They healed him,” she said, tears forming in her eyes. “I’ll do it again if you’ll believe then that he’s no traitor. He’s just an easy target for you because of his past fights against us.”

Saturn lowered her glaive. “You honestly believe this, Sailormoon?”

She nodded. “I believe KnightHisei to be truly healed and one of us. If you want to kill him, you’ll have to go through me first.”

The outers hesitated, and then lowered their attack stance. Despite their beliefs, they couldn’t kill their princess.

StarFighter helped StarFire to her feet, assisting her in walking over to her brother. “Yuki, daijobu?” she asked, touching his shoulder with her one free hand. The other was gripping Fighter’s shoulder to keep her upright. “They didn’t hurt you did they?”

KnightHisei looked at the pair with a lopsided grin on his face. “No, Kasei, I’m fine. You aren’t though.”

Fire turned her eyes from him. “I’m fine, Nii-chan.”

“No, your not. Admittedly, I’ve seen you worse, but it’s still bad, considering you’ve been fighting other senshi. Fighter, iie, Seiya-san, I would greatly appreciate it if you’d help her heal properly.”

Fighter nodded. “It’s the least I can do, seeing as I couldn’t help in the fight.”

He grinned broadly. “Afraid my little sister would rip you to shreds for interfering in an honor fight? I can’t say as I blame you. I’m a bit afraid of her, too, at times. She’s a vicious little thing, as you know from fighting her. Don’t blush, Imouto-chan. I heard all about it from Ten-chan. I also know why you lost. Loosing that much blood and fighting another senshi, even if you didn’t know he was one to begin with, is not an overly intelligent thing to do under any circumstances.”

“I do have my pride to think of, Nii-chan,” she growled.

“And how many times has your pride almost gotten you killed?” he asked sternly. “Lost count, huh?”

Fire blushed and said nothing.

“Well, we’re sorry for blaming it all on you, KnightHisei,” Uranus said apologetically.

He shook his head. “Don’t loose too much sleep over it. As Sailormoon said, I was an easy target for your suspicions because of who I was when we first met. I don’t mind now that it’s all over with.”

“Just one problem though,” Neptune interrupted. “If you aren’t, then who is it?”

“I’m surprised you haven’t figured it out yet, Sailorneptune,” a new voice said from the corner of the rooftop they were on. “Or, should I say, Kaiou Michiru?”

They turned. “How do you know my name?”

“Oh, I know lots of things about all of you.” The voice continued. The figure stood in shadow, so the senshi couldn’t tell who she was. “All of your names, where you live, where you go to school, who your love interests are, those sort of nice little private things,” she giggled evilly. “I can attack you at any time, when you least expect it.”

“Who are you?” Healer demanded.

“Healer, I think I recognize that voice.” Maker said to her.

“It’s Kaze! Fuyuno Kaze,” Mars exclaimed.

“Who?” Mercury asked her blankly.

“You know, Fuyuno Kaze, the girl who hung out with us at the crown all the time?” Mars explained. “She’s the traitor we’ve been seeing Neptune, Saturn. It was her all along, not KnightHisei.”

“KnightHisei?” Kaze asked herself. “Ah, I take it Obsidian has found you. Returned to your proper self, eh Yuki?” she said, walking up to him and cupping his chin in her left hand. “I missed you, Obsidian.” She kissed him square on the lips.

He pushed her away, wiping his mouth on his cloak. “I can’t say the same, Kori.” He said. His words were slightly muffled.

“Oh? That’s too bad.” She walked away. Jupiter lunged at her, but was knocked to the ground with a casual sweep of Kaze’s hand.

“Why are you doing this, Kaze-chan?” Mars demanded. “How did they get to you?”

Kaze laughed. “You don’t get it, do you, Hino Rei? Fuyuno Kaze is dead by my hand. It made it so easy to slip into your little circle and find Seiya.”

All eyes were on StarFighter now. “What does he have to do with this?” StarFire demanded.

“Everything, dear Kasei.” Kaze purred.

“If you’re not Kaze, then who are you?” Venus demanded.

Kaze’s face was replaced with another, one they all knew far too well. “I am Quartzite.”

Before the senshi could react she knocked StarFire over and attacked StarFighter with some sort of stun weapon and carried him off through a vortex into the Joudo Tengoku’s hold.

“Seiya!” StarFire cried out, trying to follow them through the portal, but StarLight held her back.

“You can’t Jen. You’re too weak to get him back.”

“But I have to go,” Fire said, tears streaming down her face. “They’ll do to him what they did to me and StarLove.”

“Then hurry up and recover,” Light said, glowing with her silvery aura. “I can only partially heal your hurts. The rest is up to you.”

“We need a plan to get us into their realm.” StarSinger said to the rest. “Any ideas?”

“If we knew where we were going, we could Sailor Teleport,” Venus suggested.

“Hmm. I’ll talk to Himitsu-sama and see if she can help us out a bit,” StarLove offered.

“That’s the best we can do for now,” Pluto said, stepping in. “It’s best that we all go home and get some rest. Some of us need it desperately.” She gave a meaningful look at the teary eyed StarFire.

They detransformed. Taiki and Yaten walked over to her. “Jen, we’re sorry. We should have paid more attention. You were hurt; there was nothing you could have done to save him, s it becomes our fault for not helping you out.” Taiki said, offering her his hand.

“If there’s anything we can do…” Yaten offered.

StarFire detransformed and collapsed into their arms. “Actually, there is. Would it be ok if I stay with you two tonight?”

The request took them by surprise, but they agreed after looking over to Serena and Wolf. “It’s fine with us,” Taiki said, nodding.

Jen went limp with relief and had to be helped down back to Taiki’s car.

When they got back to their apartment, they helped her into Seiya's room then left her alone.

“Do you think she’ll be ok?” Yaten asked Brett.

He shook his head. “I can’t honestly tell you. I think so. She’ll definitely be fine if we can get Seiya back. I don’t know what they wanted him for, but she’ll die trying to get him back if that’s what it takes.”

Jen collapsed onto Seiya's bed, sobbing. What do they want him for anyways? He has no part in this game you’re playing, An’ei Souku. He’s of no value to you, so leave him be. Why? Why must you people always take our loved ones away from us? The realization dawned on her then. I do. I love Seiya Kou with all my heart. I swear by StarFreedom, first Guardian of the elements, that I’ll free you from the Joudo Tengoku if it’s the last thing I do. With that, she feel asleep.
